Houston-area police flock to Dallas for funerals of 5 slain officers

“Texas and the nation Tuesday will begin the process of bidding emotional farewells to the five officers killed by a sniper’s bullets as they worked a nonviolent protest in downtown Dallas last week.

Already this year, Texas has bid farewell to five other police officers killed in the line of duty. Five times, hundreds of officers donned Class A uniforms and stretched black sheaths over their badges. Now the honor guards will snap their final salutes five more times in one extraordinary week as Dallas mourns the five officers slain Thursday at the end of a peaceful protest over the police shooting deaths of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.

Before the sniper was killed, he said he was upset about the shootings and that he wanted to kill white people, particularly white officers, according to the Dallas police chief.”

It was the deadliest day for police since 9/11…
